Misfit Academy continues to cause trouble – in the best ways possible. In 2024 we opened our permanent rehearsal and development program, Joyful Trouble.
Building on the lessons of The Steep and Thorny Way to Heaven and pushing the envelope of what art can be, Joyful Trouble is a performance incubator and rehearsal support space designed to support artists pushing their own boundaries, taking artistic risks, and disrupting the expected.
Home to our resident theatre company Speculative Drama, our resident musician Myrrh Larsen and their Song Sagas, and providing ongoing space and support to Night Carnival performers, community artists, and our yearly resident artist, Joyful Trouble brings a private rehearsal space, sound and lighting support, and performance coaching from our Creative Co-Directors Myrrh Larsen and Megan Skye Hale together to support not just our productions, but the wider Portland performance community.
